The Alexandra park bike club was first formed in 2014 by a local steering group who ran community rides throughout the summer with support from Milnbank Housing association. Since then there has been seasonal workers there supplying free bike hire for the local community. The beginning of 2017 saw the light of funding from CCF – keep Scotland beautiful who regenerated the bike hub by employing a team to reboot the site and begin a new project – The Haghill shift project was born with their main outcome being commuter cycling, community based events and spreading their love and passion for bicycles. The project now has over 200 members, over 70 commuter cyclist and over 50 bikes available to hire. Here are a list of the functions from the hub..

‘THE FULL BOOHNA’ (Gold service)

Hubs cleaned and re-greased**Headset cleaned and re-greased**Bottom bracket cleaned and re-greased**Wheels trued using the wheel jig**Seat-post removed and re-greased**Handlebar stem removed and re-greased ***excludes disc brakes servicing/pads. Plus hand wash!

‘THE PACE SETTER’ (silver service)

Clean, degrease and re-lube the drive train, Adjust hubs if applicable/possible Adjust headset if applicable/possible Check all nuts and bolts are secure Wheels trued on the bike. Plus hand wash!

‘NUTS N BOLTS’ (bronze service)

This service covers: Safety check, Brake and gear adjust, Tyre’s inflated to the correct pressure, Drive train lubricated, Advisory note for any further work required.

The Last Mile Initiative

With commuter cycling being our main outcome of the project our main function is the last mile initiative (LMI) The last mile is designed for people who are unfortunate enough not to have a bike or would like to try one before they get their own the opportunity to commute to work via bicycle saving money, their carbon foot print and time in some cases. This fantastic function offers the following;

Maintenance Classes

Would you like to be bike savvy? Then roll along to our bicycle maintenance classes. These classes are designed for the beginners or the refreshers. Over the space of 2 hours we will cover the following steps to become bike smart for £5 per head.

Free bicycle hire

The second function of the bike hub is our free use of bikes over 3 days for anyone willing to ride some two wheeled fun. From BMX bikes to road bikes we have most sizes covered with over 50 bikes available. All you need is some valid photographic I.D with proof of address and your good to roll. There is a range of E-bikes ready to go. These can only be hired out one day at a time due to recharge. We offer;

Learning 2 Ride events

Kids will have the opportunity to learn how to balance on their own bikes or using our hire bikes followed by assistance pedalling on their own and hopefully they will be fully cycling on their own by the end of the day! We normally run 2 sessions throughout the day – 11am class and a 1pm class which run for an hour at a time followed by a small presentation and good bag hand out! Our bikes sizes are for kids 5 years old onwards. Free bike hire and helmet is available with only the cost of entry being £2.00 it’s a great day out at the hub!
